AFINewsHQ Interview with Blaqk Audio

Our own AFI News HQ writer Brandon had the chance to sit down with Davey and Jade before the Long Beach show at Alex’s Bar to talk about Blaqk Audio, and about AFI as well. He also had the chance to photograph the show and there is a picture gallery at the bottom the post.

Note that the video ends abruptly, there were some technical difficulties and the remaining few questions were unfortunately not recorded but a summary of the questions and answers that are missing are provided below the video.

From Brandon:

After the video ends, I continue telling Davey and Jade that I had contacted David Raitt to ask him what he remembered from the experience and if he still had the original demo. David said he did have them said he remembers the guys being kind of crazy but super nice. He could not give out a copy of the demo without permission from one of the band members. I asked Davey if he would ever be interested in releasing them in any way and he jokingly said “Not willingly”.  Davey then mentioned that there were two David Raitt produced demos and some songs that are on those demos never made it to the Dork EP or other releases.

I asked Jade where he came into being friends with the guys in AFI during high school and they both couldn’t remember the exact time they met, but Jade said his first memory of hanging out with Davey was them skating in a JC Penny’s parking lot.

The last question I asked was about AFI’s previous guitarist Mark. I asked if when he parted ways with the band there was any ‘beef’ and I asked why he left. Davey said that Mark no longer wanted to be in the band and they could not really function anymore as a band with him in AFI. I asked if the Black Sails vinyl only track “Lower It” was about Mark and he said that it was not. But he said that looking back on the song, he sees why it could have been perceived that way.

Did I hear that right, Davey may have originally wanted to name the band “Banana’s in the Rough?”
