ZuBoutique Domain Seized

Three weeks ago, the official twitter posted this status, and as of today ZuBoutique has been shut down by the ICE- Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge for copyright infringement, and the site replaced with this image.

This isn’t the first time that Zu has gotten into hot water for their tees. In 2011 the line’s computers were seized after they neglected to follow a cease and desist order. After they got their equipment back, the duo waited to release any new shirts until early 2012, though the line has been mostly quiet since then.

What do you guys think: will the line be coming back?

    Psh

Listen, when the government comes down on you for something don’t be an idiot and repeat the action.

    • Kera says:

I know right? But they did anyways.

You’d think Davey at least would know better, considering his occupation and the way copyright infringement affects it.

      • janscutter says:

Not necessarily. Its only when you dont take into account that he is a member of PETA2 and a Vegan does it seem that way. One of the reasons I love this band is Daveys devotion to his causes. While I dont agree with his views alot of the I can never fault him in his passion and convictions on it.
Their is a very fine line between passionately voicing your beliefs and pissing off the government. I think in this case his eyes werent focused on the line.

  2. Kera says:

Either that or when he gets out we’re going to have some REALLY interesting songs.

Also, that smiley face at the end is totally mean. js.
    :P

  3. Nils-Anders says:

ACAB! Until this Thursday meant nothing to Davey!
    Get it? :P

    • Jacky says:

      I do haha.

But yeah, I think it’s actually pretty fuckin’ ridiculous. I don’t know what Zu could possibly have done to get in this much hot water, I don’t recall seeing any trademarked images or phrases on the shirts. My guess: multinational corporation chooses to attack small independently-owned business and Party A wins because of a metric shit-tonne of money.

  4. Nils-Anders says:

Oooh, this is great! Now we might get some more angry, fast songs! :P

  5. Michelle says:

Maybe they assumed they’d be safe because the government wasn’t “meant to know.”

  6. Dane says:

Did we ever find out what the shirts in question were?

  7. UnderTheJRose says:

The wholee time I was reading this System of a Down’s “Prison Song” was stuck in my head haha!
I hope things work out where Davey isn’t behind bars at all! It would give him some new inspiration for songs, but the guy would probably die or escape due to the food options. Poor Zu

  8. samantha says:

    Why are they in trouble?

  9. Shane says:

Wow, really? What exactly were they infringing?

  10. Danny says:

He’s essentially releasing band merch without permission from the bands and without giving them a % of profits. Lyrics and song titles are all for the most part copyrighted.

Not only that, but he released a Rolling Stones shirt. It costs between 25,000 to 50,000 dollars just to play Satisfaction on TV. I really, really doubt that they wouldn’t be pissed off about Davey making merch for them and not cutting them off some of the profits.

  11. Jacky says:

That makes sense and everything, but is a tiny, independently owned and run t-shirt company really any concern to these people? Just because you *can* sue someone – and win – doesn’t mean there’s any good reason to.

  12. Mel says:

Well, I’m not sure what to think of it, but concerning the question if they come back: There is a tumblr (zuboutique.tumblr.com) and it looks pretty legit. Not sure if that is best idea to handle the whole matter. The only thing I’d like to know is who they have pissed off in the first place
